About Pastor Roy D. Sword Jr.
As the son and grandson of pastors, I have been involved in mentorship/discipleship ministry off and on throughout my entire life. As a young man I attended Senior Commander Training with the South East Georgia District Assemblies Of God. I went on to attend seminary at the Indiana School Of Ministry (ISOM). As an adult I have been the senior commander of three different boys mentorship/discipleship programs called The Royal Rangers. I have worked in disaster relief organizations such as Inspiritus Disaster Relief and Disaster Team Heart. My first Disaster work was during my military service during Hurricane Hugo relief efforts in South Carolina. For this I received the U.S. Army Humanitarian Service Medal.
My first taste of mission work was many years ago when partnering with others to provide church services for Wheeler Mission occupants getting released from jail or coming in from the streets of Indianapolis. I was most recently employed as the discipleship/mentorship pastor for a men’s home where we ministered to military men suffering from severe PTSD, as well as, men coming out of detox facilities and homelessness. I have preached and taught in churches and missions but really found my calling outside the walls of the conventional church. We still attend a home base church regularly but firmly believe we are called to go out into the world and preach the Gospel. We are currently working with Lawrence County Jail in Bedford Indiana ministering to both men and women, as well as doing mentorship bible studies in a recovery center in Indiana. For my wife Becca and I its a very exciting yet faith challenging time! We give ALL praise to our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for without Him we can do nothing. We continue to thank him for all he has brought us through and all of the many lessons we have learned along the way. To God be the glory!
